Typical stages in developing your website

Web Design

Web design is really just the first stage to getting a website up and running, and essentially this means producing a layout in an image format so that the client can see the overall layout of the page, along with colour schemes and imagery. The old adage that first impressions count also applies to website design, so it is important to get the key points of the page right at this level.

The Key points of web design are:
  • Show clearly and concisely what the company does and what they have to offer
  • Text should be inviting to read
  • Website navigation should be intuitive
  • Ensure that the key points of contact are clearly visible
  • The website should "flow"
Some pages may need to be individually tailored to suit the content, as a 'one-size fits all' approach doesn't suit some web sites in terms of the different pages.

Web Development

There are two main areas of web development: front-end development and back-end development

Front-end Development
The initial stage of front-end development is to turn a design in an image format into a workable webpage using HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Here at Metamorphic Design we write the HTML code from scratch in it's raw format, unlike many web developers, whom will use a WYSIWYG editor like MS Frontpage, which is not much more difficult than using Microsoft Word and results in an unprofessional (and usually unattractive) end product. Websites that have been constructed in an editor such as this usually have many problems, such as bulky and problematic code which is difficult to maintain, poor search engine optimisation and numerous coding errors which cause cross-browser incompatibility – all these errors can mean the site looks a mess, as well as meaning less of your target audience will find the site!

In contrast, sites designed by Metamorphic Design are clean and easy to maintain and update – even for another company to manage should you choose to switch providers in the future. The code is free from errors and is compatible with all major web browsers.

Once the website has been developed into a HTML template, the next stage is to subsequent pages and features, such as galleries or contact forms.

Back-end Development
If the site is more complicated than a simple web presence, for example requires to be database driven or have an admin area for users to upload content, back-end development will now be required. Back-end development is where all the 'behind the scenes work happens.

We commonly use the following technologies, however can support a variety which are not shown easily. Should you wish to check if the technology you require is supported, please contact us on 07801 291029.

Search Engine Optimisation

Every website designed by Metamorphic Design will have a basic level of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) applied as standard, so you can be sure that certain keywords will be found easily on search engines. If you need more unusual or specific key words to be found on search engines, or have a other requirements, we would need to provide an additional SEO quote specific to your needs.

If you would like further information on any of the topics covered, or require a quote, please call us on 07801 291029.

Web hosting and domain registration

In addition to our design and development service, we can also arrange domain name registration and web hosting. This will incur an additional charge as it is a direct cost to us, but unlike some other companies we do not charge on top of this fee to make a profit. Depending on requirements, these fees are usually between £50 - £150 per year.
